The 22 Trail
A six stage trail to the Horsham area from the bus at Dorking Station lead by Roger.

| 15/11/2024 | 22/1: Holmbury St Mary to Wotton | Travel: Sutton Station at 09:35 for the 09:42 to Dorking, arrive 10:07. Catch the 22 bus at 10:15 to Holmbury St Mary (Felday Houses Bus Stop). Our walk starts from Holmbury St Mary at 10:40 and finishes at The Wotton Hatch. The start of a six stage trail to the Horsham area from the bus at Dorking Station. Ascend Holmbury Hill gradually, then descend via the cricket pitch and football field to the village where we lunch at The Royal Oak on the green (picnic). Through the woods at the back of Leith Hill and Abinger Common to finish at The Wotton Hatch where we catch the 22 or 32 back to Dorking Station. |
| 29/11/2024 | 22/2: Wotton to Mid Holmwood | Travel: Sutton Station at 10:00 for the 10:13 Horsham train, arrive Dorking Station 10:40, then the 32 Guildford bus at 10:56 Our walk starts from Wotton Hatch Bus Stop at 11:23 and finishes at Mid Holmwood. S to the GW then Wolvens Lane (track) for about 2.5 miles to Coldharbour where we have lunch at the Plough (picnic and shop). Then ascend along the road to Anstiebury Fort where we begin the long descent to the A24 at South Holmwood crossing it by the church and memorial, then through part of Holmwood Common. Bus back to Dorking Station. |
| 13/12/2024 | 22/3: Mid Holmwood to Strood Green | Travel: Sutton Station at 10:05 for the 10:13 Horsham train, alight Dorking 10:40 ,then quickly catch the 10:45 93 bus. Our walk starts from Mid Holmwood Bus Stop at 11:10 and finishes at Strood Green Bus Stop, for the 32 bus back to Dorking. Buy a return to Dorking. A short possibly muddy walk through Holmwood Common to North Holmwood, then along a stream to Stonebridge where we have lunch at The Royal Oak (field picnic opposite). Across many possibly muddy fields to a welcome tea stop at Strood Green café/shop for the 32 bus at xx:46 back to the station. |
| 03/01/2025 | 22/4: Strood Green to Norwood Hill | Travel: Sutton Station at 10:35 for the 10:42 to Dorking arrive 11:07, then 32 Bus at 11:19 to Strood Green arrive 11:29 . Our walk starts from Strood Green at 11:29 and finishes at The Fox Revived Bus Stop, Norwood Hill. Through fields and along a quietish road to Leigh (pub/picnic). More fields on an uphill gradient finishing at The Fox Revived where we take the 22 bus at 16:44 back to Dorking. |
| 17/01/2025 | 22/5: Norwood Hill to Ifield | Travel: Sutton Station at 10:05 for the 10:13 Dorking train arrive 10:40, then the 22 bus at 11:01. Our walk starts from The Fox Revived Bus Stop at 11:20 and finishes at Ifield Shopping Parade Bus Stop. If conditions are wet underfoot we may well walk along the not very busy road to near Charlwood to arrive at The Half Moon for lunch (picnic in nearby churchyard). The flat afternoon walk goes underneath the take off/landing path of the runway at Gatwick so heads down! Arriving at Ifield we may tarry at The Pelham Buckle in the shopping parade where we catch the 200 bus to Gatwick Airport. Options for the journey home: buy a single to East Croydon Station, or a single to Dorking Deepdene, or catch the 420 hourly bus back to Sutton. |
| 07/02/2025 | 22/6: Ifield to Faygate | Travel: East Croydon Station at 09:35 for the 09:49 Thameslink train usually from Platform 3 Our walk starts from Ifield Shopping Parade at 10:45 and finishes at Faygate Station. Buy a Thameslink only return to Faygate, but alight at Gatwick Airport (South Terminal) to get the 200 bus (southbound) at 10:26 to Ifield Shopping Parade arrive 10:42. Walk to the church then along Ifield Brook to Ifield Mill and Pond. Pub tba, then along fields to Faygate Station for return train at 16:31, 17:01 or 17:31 to East Croydon. |
