Mud and Magwitch
A five stage trail designed by Phil along the north Kent coast and coastal marshes starting on Thursday 28th March 2019. The trail was lead by Phil and Chris. The 5 sections were:
- Gravesend to Higham (Walked on Thur 28/3/2019)
- Higham to Gillingham (Walked on Thur 25/7/2019 - UK Record temperature in Cambridge Botanic Garden of 38.7° C!)
- Gillingham to Rainham (Walked on 15/8/2019)
- Rainham to Newington (Walked on 5/9/2019)
- Newington to Swale (Walked on 10/10/2019)

We head east alongside the Thames estuary, passing several riverside fortifications, then turn inland to Cliffe, and then south to Higham (pub/picnic). Late lunch, so bring snack for midday. MUD AND MAGWITCH 5: NEWINGTON to SWALE We continue our trail in the Medway estuary area, from Newington Station to Lower Halstow for lunch, then along the Saxon Shore Way, with views over Bedlams Bottom, up to the Chetney Marshes and finally Long Reach Channel separating the Isle of Sheppey from the mainland. We finish at Swale Station. Canine encounter possible. Pub/picnic. (PS: We did meet canines however the most threatening were securely leashed). Chris C |
